With such high expectations, the Southern Columbia Area Wrestling team is trying to accomplish something they have never done before. They are attempting to win its first District, Regional, and State Team Title. The team is returning from last season with a 3rd place finish in the PIAA State Team Duals, with an overall record of 23-1. With the team’s success last season, the expectations are pretty high for SCA. So far this season, they are right on track with a 11-0 dual meet record as of January 12, 2018.

The team also has high hopes and expectations individually with a total of 12 wrestlers ranked in the region and 7 ranked in the state. At 106 lbs., freshman Garrett Krebs is having a successful season to start to his high school career, while being ranked #11 in the region. At 113 lbs., freshman Patrick Edmondson is living up to high expectations in his first high school season. Patrick is ranked #2 in the region and #9 in the state.

At 120 lbs., returning state champion Jaret Lane is continuing to demolish his opponents. Lane broke the school record for wins (145), held by brother Kent Lane on January 6, 2018 during the “SoCo Scuffle” tournament. As of January 12, Jaret is at 150 career wins. He is coming off a perfect 48-0 state championship season looking and is looking to win his 2nd title in March, while being ranked #1 in the region and #1 in the state.

At 126 lbs, freshman Ian Yoder is performing well at the high school level and is currently ranked an impressive #8 in the region. At 132 lbs, senior Jake Renn, district qualifier, is continuing where he left off last year with a record of 28-12. Jake is ranked #3 in the region and #16 in the state. SCA’s 138 pounder, junior Mike Miner, is ranked #10 in the region. Mike had a record of 22-19 a season ago while qualifying for districts. At 145 lbs, junior Shane Miller is returning to the lineup while hoping to improve upon an 18-17 record last season.

Sophomore Cade Linn is the Tigers 152 pounder. Cade had an outstanding freshman season with a record of 39-14 and qualifying for the state tournament. He is also ranked #1 in the region and #6 in the state. At 160 lbs, Sophomore Cal Haladay, is also coming of a great freshman season. Cal went 20-11 and qualified for states. This season Cal is ranked #3 in the region and #8 in the state. Sophomore Gaige Garcia is returning to the dominance he displayed last season at 170 lbs. Gaige missed the first half of the season last year due to injury, but he was still able to place 5th in states while having a 22-3 record. He is ranked #1 in the region and #4 in the state.

Anthony Scicchitano, a Senior veteran on this team, is returning at 182 lbs for the Tigers. Anthony had a record of 30-11 and qualified for districts last year. He is ranked #6 in the region. At 195 lbs, Sophomore Lear Quinton is ranked #7 in the region. Lear had a 13-11 record a season ago. He is looking to build upon his success this season, while continuing his run as a dark horse in the lineup. At 220 lbs, newcomer Sean Sprague looks to slot into the starting spot for the Tigers as he currently holds a record of 7-1. Closing it out in the heavyweight spot is Connor Fulmer. Connor had a record of 28-14 last season. He is currently ranked #4 in the region and #18 in the state.

The Tigers have a stellar line-up, along with many other athletes competing for a starting spot. The squad is focused and determined for the upcoming postseason. The Tigers are looking to chase history by bringing home a PIAA State team championship.
