For better or for worse, till lack of entertainment do us part.
Movies have become increasingly popular over the years. Whether it’s going to a movie theatre, renting a film, or watching an old favorite at home, these creative outlets for directors and screenwriters alike have provided a form of entertainment most people have experienced countless times in their life.
But is the quality of these beloved films declining? We took a poll of 50 people ranging from middle school aged children to middle-aged adults, and asked them how many movies they have seen, what their favorite movie or movie genre is, how they think movies have evolved during their lifetime, if they think movies are filled to the brim with quality, or half empty, and why they think this is.
To poll or not to poll?
We were concerned, as your information providers, if we would receive enough data to give an accurate representation of this widespread opinion in this particular poll. But we were overwhelmed with the amount of responses we were sent when the survey was posted on Instagram. These middle school children, high school students, college students and middle-aged adults answered these questions, and we believe we have gathered just the right amount of opinions to ensure this article is as precise as possible.
How many movies have you seen in your lifetime?
When asked how many movies they had seen in their lifetime, nearly everyone answered 35 or more! That’s an extensive amount of movies, and with that amount of information we can gather an accurate answer to our questions.
What is your favorite movie or movie genre?
We were surprised to find that an exceeding amount of you said comedy was your favorite movie genre.
Ordinarily, you hear people say their favorite genre is action or drama. When asked their favorite movie, some answered Monsters Inc., Remember the Titans,the Star Warsfranchise, the Marvelfranchise, and the Godfather.
How do you think movies have evolved in your lifetime?
Most answered that special effects have improved over time. Some also answered that movies have become more expensive to produce in recent years. On the other hand, others said there has been a lack of creativity and that that is due to the addition of numerous sequels to a single movie.
Do you think movies are becoming better or worse?
The final question, the one we have all been waiting for: do you think movies are becoming better or worse? While we weren’t sure what kind of response we were going to receive, this was another surprise for us.
After hearing that the majority of you thought that movies were becoming worse we asked why. You all responded with popular answers to this question. There are too many sequels, and numerous reboots that seem to lack creativity and original thoughts.
A Farewell to Unoriginal Ideas
Hopefully directors will begin to take a step back and give a second thought to making another sequel, and alternately create a movie that is not only original, but truly amazing. Hollywood is filled with numerous people, all with their own ideas, plans, and dreams. Perhaps one of them will create a change in the trends in the filmmaking industry that will inspire others to direct more original movies, and start a whole new era with their creations.
